PAP-APP Cooperation agreements signed with the SAIs of Eritrea, The Gambia and Zimbabwe

PAP-APP Cooperation agreements signed with the SAIs of Eritrea, The Gambia and Zimbabwe

The agreements which were signed on the 21st of September are part of the Accelerated Peer-Support Partnership programme (PAP-APP).  The focus differs slightly for the three SAIs. For the Office of the Auditor General of Eritrea, the focus of the collaboration will be on finalizing and launching a new strategic plan. The SAI will then update the operational plan and its monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems. “This is a very important milestone for us,” says Auditor General Mr. Gherezgiher Ghebremedhin. Through this partnership, we are now optimistic we can truly implement our new strategic plan.

The National Audit Office of The Gambia will develop a new strategic plan based on a need assessment and stakeholder consultations, before implementing a new operational planning process and strengthening monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems. “I am excited about this new partnership as it comes at a time when we are moving from being a government entity to becoming more independent”, says Auditor General Mr. Karamba Touray. There will be a need for capacity development in many areas. With this collaboration, we hope to get the necessary long-term assistance enabling us to fulfil our new mandate.”

For the Office of the Auditor General of Zimbabwe, a key first step is a mid-term review of their current strategic plan. The review will then be used for updating the operational plan and develop relevant project proposals for long-term capacity development support. This collaboration is built on a proper understanding of our situation and needs. We are very grateful to IDI and AFROSAI-E for taking such an approach," said Auditor-General Mrs Mildred Chiri. "We will bring up to date and fine-tune our strategic plan and through this project make sure it is implemented."

“As AFROSAI-E, we are very pleased about the new agreements”, says AFROSAI-E Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Meisie Nkau. “It is exciting to see the needs of our SAIs matched to opportunities (readiness of the SAIs to received structured support and availability of the support). We are delighted to be part of the group that will be coordinating support to these SAIs and demonstrate the benefits of coordinated efforts. We are dedicated to work with these SAIs and to build on the good relations and trust we’ve established from many years of capacity development in the region”.

This is one of the key milestones of the PAP-APP programme”, says IDI’s Deputy Auditor General Mr. Ola Hoem. “It has been a very fruitful and interesting journey to prepare for the agreements. I am sure that by the end of 2019 we will have achieved what we aimed for and have enabled scaled up and strategically based support to SAIs in a better and coordinated manner.”
